Layout and cutout. Layout went well. Take your time in choosing your your wood and the way that you want it to look on the sides of your teardrop trailer. make sure you lay out each side so that the good side is out. You will need a left and a right side. I cut out my plans and taped them together and taped them to one of the sides I took time to make sure that the doors where vertical to the base and that the plans laid out flat since they had been folded up in a box for a few months. I used masking tape to hold them down and put it about every 6 inches. I used a permanent marker and traced out the side. Then as I removed the tape I filled in under the tape as I worked my way around the plans. Cutout went well. I used a jigsaw and cut out the sides. For the doors I drilled a small hole in three corners and then cut it out. I used clamps and a small board to hold the door in as I did my cutting. that way the door would not fall out on the floor and get damaged or tear out when you finish a cut. I used the first side that I cut out and just traced that out on the other side making sure the layout was right. Use a good blade when cutting out you will get a nice smooth cut if you do. Sanding and squaring things up. After I cut out the sides I clamped the sides together making sure that the base and the front where together and lined up right. I took a belt sander and sanded the sides so that they would match and would be square. Next time I make one I will cut out a pattern and then use my router and cut them out. I think it will save me a step and not have to try and square up the sides. Take your time and make them the same. your top will look better if you make each side the same. |
